Low Back Pain treatment in Dhaka
Lumbago · কোমর ব্যথা ও লো-ব্যাক পেইন
Low back pain is one of the most common reasons people see a doctor. Most episodes settle with time and sensible care; the task is to recognise the few that need closer attention.

Draft patient information — awaiting medical review by Prof. Dr. Md. Kamrul Ahsan before publication.
Overview
Pain in the lower back can come from muscles, ligaments, joints, discs or nerves. Prolonged sitting, poor posture, heavy physical work and reduced bone strength can all contribute.
Back pain that lasts longer than a few weeks, keeps returning, or comes with leg symptoms deserves a proper assessment.
Symptoms that may need assessment
- Aching or stiffness across the lower back
- Pain on bending, lifting, or after long periods of sitting
- Pain that spreads to the buttock or leg
- Back pain with fever, weight loss, or pain at night that does not ease with rest
Seek urgent medical care if you have
- Loss of control of the bladder or bowel
- Numbness around the groin, buttocks or back passage
- Weakness in the arms or legs that is getting worse
- Severe pain after a fall, road accident or other injury
- Back or neck pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or a history of cancer
How it is assessed
- History, posture and movement assessment, and neurological examination
- X-ray, MRI, CT scan or bone density test when the findings call for them
Treatment options
Non-surgical care
- Staying active, with short breaks from sitting every 30–60 minutes
- Medicines as prescribed, including muscle relaxants where appropriate
- Physiotherapy, back-strengthening exercise and ergonomic advice
- Treatment of contributing conditions such as reduced bone density
Surgical options
Surgery is rarely needed for back pain alone. It may be discussed when a specific structural cause — such as instability, nerve compression or a fracture — is found and has not responded to other care.
No treatment can guarantee a particular result. Your options, their benefits and their risks are discussed with you at consultation.
Recovery
Most people return to normal activities. Building a strong core and good daily habits lowers the chance of future episodes.
Questions patients ask
Do I need an MRI for back pain?
Not always. Imaging is useful when symptoms persist, when there are nerve signs, or when warning features are present. Your doctor will decide what is needed.
Can my desk job cause back pain?
Long periods of sitting place sustained load on the spine. Regular position changes, a supportive chair and screen at eye level all help.
