Cervical Spondylosis treatment in Dhaka
Often called cervical spondylitis · সার্ভাইক্যাল স্পন্ডাইলাইটিস
Wear-related changes in the discs and joints of the neck. It may cause neck pain alone, or press on nerves and the spinal cord and cause symptoms in the arms or hands.

Draft patient information — awaiting medical review by Prof. Dr. Md. Kamrul Ahsan before publication.
Overview
Cervical spondylosis develops gradually as the discs and joints of the neck age. Bony spurs and disc bulges can narrow the space for the nerve roots and spinal cord.
Pressure on a nerve root can cause pain and tingling into the arm. Pressure on the spinal cord (cervical myelopathy) can affect hand function and balance and needs prompt assessment.
Symptoms that may need assessment
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Pain, numbness or tingling spreading from the neck into the arm or hand
- Clumsy hands, difficulty with buttons or handwriting
- Unsteady walking or balance problems
Seek urgent medical care if you have
- Loss of control of the bladder or bowel
- Numbness around the groin, buttocks or back passage
- Weakness in the arms or legs that is getting worse
- Severe pain after a fall, road accident or other injury
- Back or neck pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or a history of cancer
How it is assessed
- Neurological examination of the arms and legs
- X-ray of the neck; MRI when nerve or cord involvement is suspected
Treatment options
Non-surgical care
- Medicines as prescribed and physiotherapy
- Posture correction, especially for screen and phone use
- Neck-strengthening and mobility exercises
Surgical options
When the spinal cord or nerve roots are significantly compressed, surgery such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion or laminoplasty may be considered.
No treatment can guarantee a particular result. Your options, their benefits and their risks are discussed with you at consultation.
Recovery
Recovery depends on how long and how severely the nerves or cord were compressed. This is assessed and explained individually.
Questions patients ask
Why do my hands feel numb if the problem is in my neck?
The nerves that supply the arms and hands leave the spine in the neck. Pressure on them there can be felt further down the arm.
When should I worry?
Weakness, clumsy hands, or difficulty walking should be assessed promptly, as they can be signs of spinal cord compression.
